Body Piercing Care

It is MOST important that the new piercing be thoroughly cleaned three times a day for the first three days. Then twice a day for the next three days. And then once a day for the rest of the healing process. Most body piercings take about 2 months to heal.

Clean your body piercing with a low PH soap (antibactierial soap, like Dial or Lever 2000).

1. The first step in cleaning is to remove any matter which has dried on the jewlry or around the opening of the piercing. (This matter should only be secreted from the piercing during the early period of the healing process).

2. Work a small amount of the soap solution into the piercing and leave it in contact with the skin for about three minutes. Lather up the piercing again and work the jewelry back and forth through the piercing a few times.

3. Now rince the piercing thoroughly. again working the jewlry back and forth under the running water to remove all traces of soap. We recommend following this procedure while showering.

4. Pat dry and apply a small amount of antibiotic ointment (such as Neosporin or Mycitracin). Be sure to work the jewelry back and forth with each application of the ointment.

5. An antibiotic ointment can be used for the first 10 days after the piercing, or if signs of infection occur. Do not use ointment any longer than 10 days, as problems can result with prolonged use. Be careful using antibiotic ointments and follow directions on the package to avoid allergic reactions.
